The History of Claudia

I was born in Fabriano, in the centre of Italy on 12-11-1965 . I attended college to become a teacher since I thought it was the fastest way to enter the University of physical education of Perugia , my biggest ambition since I was twelve. This experience was disappointment, because it was not exactly what I had expected; in consequence of this, after only 5 exams, I quit University but certainly not my passion for sport.

My first approach to sport was playing basketball, particularly felt in my family because my father was a staff member of the local basketball team.

I practised artistic gymnastics for 8 years, then tennis and swimming (I also obtained the lifeguard license!!)

When I moved from Fabriano to Milan for work reasons I begun to frequent gyms. My beginnings with weight-lifting happened when I was 31, after I had the second child, since being a mum of two children wouldn’t have let me follow with total commitment any course. So the natural solution was the gym because I would have had time flexibility. I used to took Nicole to school at 9 a.m. and Thomas with me at the gym. He was only 3 months old, he would sleep in his baby buggy while I was training myself.

This self-made and personalized training begun to excite me more each day, I finally had the possibility to concentrate my efforts in order to remove the sings of previous pregnancies. Many people started to encourage me to do competitions, because I was “genetically predisposed”. One day I had the possibility to see a live Body Building competition: it was really exciting! I could smell the contest tension and finally I said to myself: why not?

My first competition was in 2002 with the “Freeway Trophy” and I finished in 5th place. In 2003 I tried to compete in the “Two Towers” competition in the prestige category… I didn’t even reach the final! In that contest I met Betto Mondello and he gave me the most beautiful compliment of my sporting career: “Of course you haven’t won this competition: you are not suited for fitness, you are a body builder!. Next week there will be another contest in “La Spezia” called the “Night of champions”; you should enter that competition as a body builder!” I followed his suggestion and that night I won the competition for the BB -52kg! That contest qualified me for the 2004 European Championships and to me it was a real surprise!

So it started my road to success, with a lot of work, sacrifices, giving up, perseverance and will-power. My story is the evidence that “if you want it, you can do it!”
